HearPin 1.0 · iPhone & Apple Watch

Make your first Trace

HearPin 1.0 requires iOS 18 or later and watchOS 11 or later, with an Apple Watch paired to your iPhone. The app’s interface is currently in English.

  1. Install HearPin on both devices and open it on each. Complete the iPhone setup and allow microphone access when requested on the watch.
  2. Tell people nearby before recording and obtain any required consent. Tap the center control on your watch to start. Hold it for 1 second to stop.
  3. Keep the devices nearby. On iPhone, open Settings → Apple Watch and choose Sync Now when the watch is reachable.
  4. Open your daily Trace on iPhone. Transcription runs locally; keep the app open while you check the first result.

Common questions

Why isn’t my watch syncing?

Confirm HearPin is installed and has been opened on both devices. Keep the paired watch and iPhone nearby with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled. Open HearPin on both, then check Settings → Apple Watch on iPhone and try Sync Now.

Transfer timing depends on Apple’s system scheduling. Unsynced clips stay on the watch. Avoid deleting the watch app while it still holds recordings you need.

Why can’t I start recording?

On Apple Watch, check Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone and allow HearPin to use the microphone. Also check available storage and battery. If a call or another audio session interrupted recording, return to HearPin and tap to resume when you are ready.

Why is transcription slow or inaccurate?

First confirm the clips have reached your iPhone. Speech recognition runs on your phone, so processing time depends on recording length, the selected mode, device temperature, and available resources. Keep HearPin open and connect the phone to power when processing a long recording.

In Settings → Transcription Mode, choose the mode that supports the language you recorded. Mode changes apply to clips transcribed from then on. Noise, overlapping speakers, and quiet speech can reduce accuracy; compare important passages with the audio.

Does recording or transcription need the internet?

Recording and transcription do not require a HearPin cloud connection. Speech models are included in the app, and clips transfer through the paired-device connection. Downloading the app, opening this website, or emailing support uses the internet. System backups are controlled separately by your device settings.

Why is there a gap in a Trace?

The watch’s Skip silence setting can omit long quiet stretches. Calls, a drained battery, insufficient storage, or other interruptions can also leave gaps. Check the recording status on your watch and resume recording if it has stopped.

How do I delete recordings or recover a deleted day?

Open a Trace on iPhone, open More, then choose Delete This Day and confirm. This removes that day’s audio and transcripts from the phone. HearPin has no server copy to restore.

Deletion on the phone does not remove a pending watch clip or an existing system backup. Manage backups separately. To remove all local app data, delete HearPin from both devices; offloading alone may retain data.
